Letter From the Artistic Director

August 24,2007

Dear Friends:
This year has brought much kudos to The Garage Theatre Group.

Mikaela Kafka was nominated as best actress, in a play in New Jersey by Peter Filicia of The Star Ledger. Those of you who were lucky enough to see her in The Maids are sure to agree. Mikaela also performed with GTG in 2004 in Slaughter City and wowed the audiences then as well.

Niklas Anderson, who has served three seasons as the GTG’s Lighting Designer, was not only nominated but also won for best lighting design for our production of Porcelain. Again, those of you who shared this production with us would certainly agree. I’m sure we all join in congratulating both of them.

And we look forward to bringing you more award winning theatre this season.

Mona Hennessy, a brilliant actress, will share her “Happy Days” with us. Don’t miss her in our special season opener Samuel Beckett’s Happy Days.

We’re working on bringing you something very special in February. But due to contract negotiations you’ll just have to wait to see what it is. Trust me…it will be special. April will bring the classic Wind in The Willows. Ever since the publication of Kenneth Grahame’s novel in 1908, the characters of Ratty, Mole, Toad, and Badger have delighted generations of readers. Now Alan Bennett has written an adaptation for the stage, a version that is both true to the original and yet carries the distinctive Bennett hallmark. This production will bring many familiar faces back to The Garage stage.

Our Youth Company will be celebrating the year of the woman, or perhaps I should say girl. Opening up with the classic A Little Princess – The Musical the classic story by Frances Hodgson Burnett, moving on to Cinderella, a brand new version of the world’s most popular fairy tale, and ending with Neil Simon’s Sweet Charity.

Yes, we’re also committed to the “raffle” but we’d like to shorten or eliminate that curtain speech, so please, consider buying your raffle ticket early in the season.

Sincere thanks for joining or continuing to be a part of the GTG family.

Michael Bias
Artistic Director
