Acting 1 for ages 6-9 uses interactive theatre games and dramatic story telling so children can learn to express themselves both verbally and non-verbally. By showing rather than telling, personal and creative freedom is encouraged in a nurturing environment. The result is a flowering of self-expression, which can be applied in their everyday lives.  The workshop is on Tuesdays from 4:00 to 5:15 p.m. Cost $345.

Acting 2 for ages 10-13 begins with sensory work and moves on through basic acting techniques. Students are taught through the use of theatre games, role playing and improvisation to physicalize rather than verbalize their thoughts and emotions. During the course of the year, students work on problem solving in scenes and improvisations. This workshop is held on Wednesdays from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Cost $380.

Acting 3 for ages 13 -18 joins basic and advanced acting techniques through relaxation exercises, sensory work, sense memory technique, character development, monologues and scene study. The class promotes an exchange of ideas and a forum for communication. Students develop a sense of responsibility and commitment while working together with other young artists.  Acting 3 is held on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.  Cost $440.

Acting and Scene Study for teens and adults will be held on Monday evenings from 7:00-10:00 p.m. This workshop is an advanced class in technique and scene study. Sensory work, character development, monologues and scene work are emphasized. Cost $470.

Acting 1 and 2 will be taught by Anne Rothenberg, a Garage Theatre Group alumnus, graduate of New York University Theatre Arts program, and member of Actors Equity. Michael Bias, artistic/producing director of The Garage, will teach Acting 3 and the Acting and Scene Study workshop.

A new offering in The Garage Youth Conservatory season is Theatre Dance, a 90 minute class with Instructor Sean Baldwin.  The class description notes From Bob Fosse to Agnes DeMille to Susan Stroman, this course will strengthen the dancer's agility and the ability to follow directions while building a team and having a blast. It is a goal-driven process with a final presentation that features the special abilities of the workshop participants.  Baldwin, a dancer and choreographer, has 25 years of experience teaching young people.  Day and time will be announced shortly. Cost $360

Professional comedian T.C. Tanis returns to the Garage to lead the Stand-Up Comedy workshop. Tanis teaches participants to write and perform their own comedy routine. Students are guided to perform through improvisations, the use of props and the use of language. Through this process students learn to trust their own viewpoint as to what is funny.  Stand-Up Comedy is a ten-week workshop. Day and time for this 90-minute class will be announced. Cost $380.

The Garage also offers individual acting coaching ($70/hour) and voice lessons ($60/hour)

All classes require an annual $50.00 registration fee to cover insurance costs. This fee will reserve your spot in class and entitles the student to participate in all Garage Theatre activities including classes, productions and field trips. Since all classes have limited enrollment, early registration is strongly suggested. Priority is given to returning students.
